My computer has something like a virus on it!

I downloaded this thing on my computer.

And after I kindda relized that it might be a virus on it i erased it. But it's like it's still there! Arg!

And also whenever I google something - A pop-up thing comes up * THIS IS NOT GOOD GUYS!* Where a porn website comes up....!!!!

*Pretty much close.... A word or 2 might be different*

like a previous poster suggested, get avast. it'll scan things while the item downloads and warn you if it finds anything. and, like others have said, don't do what the pop up tells you to. it'll download more mal-ware to your pc.

also, get a good pop-up blocker. good firewalls sometimes have this feature included. if you look at http://download.com it'll give user and c-net reviews, to help you pick one (and other security programs) that's good for you.

more importantly, back up your music, video and documents that you have on your hard drive. i keep a back-up anyway, but i'm paranoid like that. anyways, if the virus scans don't find anything, you could always re-format your hard drive (another reason to back up your files. the re-format deletes everything on your hard drive and re-installs your operating system). but that's a last resort measure.
