How do i get rid of spyware and adware?symantic

I would recommend uninstalling all of the non-essential stuff on your PC, and getting AVG Antivirus and Antispyware. Whatever you're using now doesn't seem to be properly solving the problem (either that or something you're doing is reinstating the problem)

Is this good security for my pc?

I have:

-ESET Smart Security - antivirus, antispyware, firewall and antispam

-Webroot Spy Sweeper

-TrendMicro antispyware

-McAfee Siteadvisor

-A firewall built into my wireless router (bt home hub)

-I occasionally download Prevx free and scan

-I occasionally do an online scan with XBlock

Is this good security for my pc?symatec

yep, aslong as you dont go on any dodgy sites that should all be ok.

Ive only got spywareblaster/spybot and AVG on my pc and i use the routers firewall. ive never had any problems at all

Is this good security for my pc?vista

It's ok. but one problem. Is your wireless router secured with WEP/WPA (WPA being stronger)?

If not, then someone like me could gain access...

Best of luck
Not really. A collection of band aids will not fix a deep wound.

It'll also make your computer run as slow as molasses.

The best part of what you have there is the router.

Turn off the other junk, be cautious when browsing and don't open email attachments from people you don't know.
Personally I'd just have NOD32 av (fw if you really want it - I've not used it)

Windows XP firewall in SP2 is pretty decent and simple.

I'd use Spybot S%26D. HJT is good to use time to time.
I use AVG Free Edition and Zone Alarm... Both of which are free and I have never had a virus. I also use System Mechanic and Spybot Search and Destroy for spyware removal a registry cleanup. SpyBot if free but System Mechanic is 40 bucks. I am a long term computer technician and I am not very familiar with the programs you are using. Sorry I can not answer your question, but I hope you can try out the software I have suggested
DUMP it all -- make sure your windows fire wall is turned on, get a copy of AVG or AVAST and you will be fine -- you have to many things running at the same time gonna bog your system down -- and web root spy sweeper (think has a hidden trojan) never really seems to work right, and when ever using it I used to get weird pop ups generated out of what seemed to be no where

Help my computers been hijacked?

I dont know how this has happend but somehow a little icon has apeard on the bottom right of my screen next to the clock. it is a little picture of a flashing shield and question mark, every 10 seconds a warning pops out of it saying that i have a trojen horse or system alert or malware, then it prompts me to install a antispyware device, it says click on the buble and if you do it takes you to a site called virus heat, i have now installed a differnt antispyware device sbecause i dont trust virus heat, i need to delete that little icon and what it is doing, i have already been through add/remove programmes and cant find anything, if anybody can help me i would be most gratefull, ps today i have deleted all cookies thankyou

Help my computers been hijacked?systemworks

Help my computers been hijacked?windows

Reinstall Computer as Suggested on website below and you shall NEVER AGAIN HAVE PROBLEMS AT ALL!!!

http://computersguide.blogspot.com/2007/...
Look in program files%26gt;Startup, see if it is there, if not, startup cpl is a control panle module which allows you to add/ remove programs from system start. download here

http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml
You could download A.V.G anti virus free. That should get rid of it. http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl...
Are you on a wireless system?,your best bet is to go to IOBIT.COM,and download --WINDOWS ADVANCED CARE V2 PERSONAL--it is a one click program that will sort everything out for you.If you can get the beta 3.1 version of it then grab it with both hands,it is a very spectacular performer giving you lots of control.GOOD LUCK,---PS- be very careful on IOBIT,be very careful what you click for the download as you can make a mistake and download one of those awful registry cleaners that you dont want.
Look in your startup folder and see if that program is listed there. If so, before deleting it, do a right mouse click and select properties. This may tell you the name of the exe file and where it is located. Write this information down and then delete the file from the start up folder. This will stop it from loading when you start you computer.

What is the best, free protection?

what is the best, free antispyware program, antivirus program, firewall, anti-malware program and whatever you can get from the net?

Oh yeah can you put more than one antispyware on your computer?

I currently have mcafee security center which is supposed to be antivrus, spy, mal,ad, firewall protection but i dont really like it that much.

What is the best, free protection?triumph

Best? BitDefender

Free? AVG

What is the best, free protection?worms

AntiVir Personal catches everything - I've never had a virus.

Use SpyBot and Adaware along with Spyware Blaster too.
I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from the following linkhttp://www.computeractive.co.uk/. On the home page select downloads and then the appropriate category.I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps
The best free anitvirus is AVG all the way. I use it at work. The best free anit-spyware is Spybot Search and Destroy. Yes you can put more than one antispyware but I wouldn't do it. It's one or the other.
best free, firewall, rated, is comodo link http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/#

avg free is a good free antivirus http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/

you can use more than 1 antispyware, again avg do a decent free version http://free.grisoft.com/doc/download-fre... these will not hog your resources, and they do offer good protection

  • Adssite - one PESKY little bug!!?

    Hi

I have searched all over the internet with regards to this PITA bug called ADSSITE and although there is a plethora of information available on how to GET RID of this, each time I try, it *seems* to get fixed but the bugger just keeps coming right on back!!

Currently, I've tried to remove this friggin' thing using NAV CE 10.6, Spybot, Spyhunter, Super Antispyware, a method suggested with combofix, and Hijack This.

NAV is useless. Spybot usually only finds some cookies, unrelated to this bug. Spyhunter seemed to find something that could be related as well as Super Antispyware. But with each removal of this bugger (or what I think is what is found with these utilities), the popups cease for a while then, when least expected, another pops up.

What is even more bizarre is, these popups are only occurring with Firefox, NOT Internet Explorer. Firefox, gives the user more control I would have expected IE to be affected, NOT Firefox. But, anything is possible.

    I'm at my wits end!

May need some files moving manually. However, we need to see logs, such as HJT, Combofix -- so that we know what were dealing with.

Follow the links in my source list, where you'll be able receive free help on removing this.
