i just logged on and a red X on the bottom of my screen says my computer is infected and i need to to install the latest antispyware, so i clcik on it and a SpySheriff thing appears that i need to buy, can i get rid of the infection thing another way?

SpySheriff is malware. If you already have your own antivirus and antispyware installed, try running a full system scan. (Preferably in safe mode.) If it doesn't work, I'd contact your security provider for help. (That's what they're there for, right?) If they won't help, you could try these suggested fixes:

It's not easy and messing with the registry is always a risk. SpySheriff has been around long enough that your own antivirus and antispyware providers should have a fix.
