I think a virus emulating virus warning software is preventing me from loading Norton 2008?

I have a multi machine licence for norton 2008, but cannot get it to load on my main PC. It seems to be infected by a programme that emulates virus protection and spyware protection software warnings, telling me that my machine is infected and that I should download antispyware software. This virus is preventing me from loading the Norton programme, which I want to do to get rid of the virus. any ideas. In an emulation of the red 'Security System Warning' window, it says that 'Abebot' has been detected.
