Not really. A collection of band aids will not fix a deep wound.

It'll also make your computer run as slow as molasses.

The best part of what you have there is the router.

Turn off the other junk, be cautious when browsing and don't open email attachments from people you don't know.

Windows XP firewall in SP2 is pretty decent and simple.

I'd use Spybot S%26D. HJT is good to use time to time.
I use AVG Free Edition and Zone Alarm... Both of which are free and I have never had a virus. I also use System Mechanic and Spybot Search and Destroy for spyware removal a registry cleanup. SpyBot if free but System Mechanic is 40 bucks. I am a long term computer technician and I am not very familiar with the programs you are using. Look in your startup folder and see if that program is listed there. If so, before deleting it, do a right mouse click and select properties. This may tell you the name of the exe file and where it is located. Write this information down and then delete the file from the start up folder. Use SpyBot and Adaware along with Spyware Blaster too.
I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. On the home page select downloads and then the appropriate category.I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. I have searched all over the internet with regards to this PITA bug called ADSSITE and although there is a plethora of information available on how to GET RID of this, each time I try, it *seems* to get fixed but the bugger just keeps coming right on back!!

Currently, I've tried to remove this friggin' thing using NAV CE 10.6, Spybot, Spyhunter, Super Antispyware, a method suggested with combofix, and Hijack This.

NAV is useless. Spybot usually only finds some cookies, unrelated to this bug. Spyhunter seemed to find something that could be related as well as Super Antispyware. But with each removal of this bugger (or what I think is what is found with these utilities), the popups cease for a while then, when least expected, another pops up.

What is even more bizarre is, these popups are only occurring with Firefox, NOT Internet Explorer. Firefox, gives the user more control I would have expected IE to be affected, NOT Firefox. But, anything is possible.

I'm at my wits end!

Spyware doctor starter edition Spyware.known_Bad_Sites?

i recently downloaded the free version of spyware doctor. Everytime i do a scan, it shows me the ''Spyware.known_Bad_Sites'', i quarantined it first, did the scan again and still it appeared, i deleted it completely but still it appeared in the scan. I tried another antispyware spybot S%26D, but that didn't even find the error.

The thing is that spyware doctor says that spyware.known bad sites is a high level risk. i don't know what to do. is there any other antispyware that can get rid of this or is this threat really not that big

I have some kind of virus that I must have gotten when I tried to download some video. My computer is working fine except for this pop-up alert I have been getting for about 3 days now that says:

If I understand your question correctly, you have successfully removed MonaRonaDona and this is a different problem.

Well it sounds like super anti spyware has actually got rid of the infection *Thumbs up* However I would not reccomend doing a system restore because that may put the infection back on.

Use windows live one care the 90 day trial, this is pretty good of rooting out the smitfruad varient you have, and by the way iof it is the smitfruad, dont go on porn no more because thats the main way smitfruad and its varients are downloaded.

So use windows live onecare it will have to uninstall the other anti virus applications but hey you can put them back on when your done.

AHH! someone help me! I don't know what to do.

My brother and I were trying to find the two girls one cup video to show a friend who hasn't seen it, lol and somehow durning this process I downloaded some kind of spyware or something!?!? Is the entire thing fake? I tried downloading this antispyware but it won't download all the way.

Nothing's wrong with my computer. Everything runs the same. I even changed the desktop background back. AND installed mcafee and it says nothing's wrong. Could there really be something wrong? How do I fix it? How do I make the annoying warning things stop?

I went to download.com and downloaded a free spyware scanner. I ran it %26 Norton and they both found spyware %26 adware but said that it was all removed. The desktop background was still th same. I was able to go to my control panel and change it but when I restarted my computer, it was back.

I've had some spyware problems on my E-Machine T5212 (personal home). Using McAfee, Windows Defender and AntiSpyware My computer now seems to be clear. I cannot get my desktop display background picture to change via the control panel. The control panel displays the above message as ''default.'' I have applied some of the computer background pictures as well as some jpg photos. It displays for about a minute then reverts back to the above message on a blank screen. My desktop icons are still in place and my computer seems to operating okay (more popups than usual).

Sounds like youve got some virus and/or spyware happening and your software cannot be trusted.

If that is able to take care of your viral issues.. I highly recommend getting an up to date version of mcafee, keeping your susciption renewed, and making sure it's properly configured and automatically downloading the updates required to properly prtect you.. then get rid of that other crap.

You may have to reinstall windows after cleaning to correct any corrupted system files.

If you are unable to clean things via web and get your stuff reinstalled properly you may have to format from scratch.

Dude, there is nothing to eliminate. Spybot is blocking any and all connections between your computer and the ad.yieldmanager.com ad-server. The site never reaches your hard drive. A good thing.

If you want to be doubly protected, you could block connection by adding yieldmanager.com to your Windows Hosts file with an IP address of 127.0.0.1, which will block it twice for you.

But a connection to yieldmanager.com is not a major security threat to your computer, anyways. It is more of a privacy issue. Ad.yieldmanager.com uses techniques that track users web-surfing habits to send them customised, personalized ads. Similar to what a tracking cookie does. Its not a huge deal to most people.

You should not have installed that so called ''anti-virus''. You have just been fooled by the fake warning and you have installed a virus.

Download and run free avg anti virus from grisoft. Also download and run Spybot Search and Destroy. These are two reliable programs.

Out of Scan Range....safe mode not working!?

I tried rebooting into safe mode with the Super Antispyware option....I wanted to scan for spyware and such. The computer rebooted and the widnows xp meassage came up , but after a few seconds I got a black screen with a message saying ''out of scan range'' and it gave me some numbers followed by hz's. I can't login under safe mode, I've never been able to because it would always give me this message, so I would always log into regular mode and scan there. Download both and if you have them yes the programs can fix them and you will be fine. Luigi you can delete spy-ware and virus on a PC fine. I've done it for people many times. Also disk derangement has nothing to do with scanning for a virus or spy-ware.

I downloaded superantispyware about a week ago and it took me the rest of the evening getting my computer straightened out.

Right after I downloaded the program my computer started acting up as though it was hit with some spy or malware.

I uninstalled the program and started doing some additional scans and found in my existing antispyware some four items. I was finally able to get my computer straightened out.

I do believe superantispyware comes with some excess baggage that you don't really want on your computer.

I use the Firefox browser instead of IE and it seems to help quite a bit as the browser has an automatic pop-up blocker built in. (Tools --%26gt; Options --%26gt; Content)

Also, you can go to Start --%26gt; Run --%26gt; type in ''msconfig'' --%26gt; click OK --%26gt; click Startup tab --%26gt; delete some of the things you don't want to pop up every time you start your computer. This has helped my computer speed up quite a bit.

Now its getting out of hands. I have been asking this question for ages and no one seems to care. AdAwareSE Personal's update definition is now 16 days, WHICH MEANS IT IS OUT OF DATE. I manually check for updates everyday, but have not received a byte since 19th Sep. Isn't this outrageous?????? They have given us a free antispyware, that does not mean they won't update it. All the other 3 antispyware which I have get updated almost daily. What about the new spyware and adware released after 19th Sep??? Help with virus Trojan Zlob!!!?

Yesterday I found out that I have a virus on my computer there is a flashing icon at the bottom of the screen which pops up every minute saying system alert also when I connect to the internet instead of my yahoo home page I just get ''blank page''

I have Norton 360 installed and after doing a scan it did find a trojan zlob but I can't seem to get rid of it so after following the advice of yahoo answers on someone elses question about trojan I downloaded a free starter edition of spydoctor which did the trick it found 5 threats including: backdoor.IRCBot.ACD, Trojan.PSGuard_desktop_hijacker,Rogue antispyware.systemdoctor, Trojan popuper and Rogue antispyware.spyAxe. and straight away a couple of boxes popped up saying malicious activity blocked and then the flashing icon dissapeared and my yahoo homepage was working again.

But today it's back to normal the flashing icon and my homepage nowhere to be seen!

Can anyone help me what should I do now? I'm in a panic!

A lot of viruses sit in RAM, the registry and System Restore so deleting these can be quite time consuming but thankfully not impossible.

First of all turn off System Restore by right clicking on 鈥楳y Computer鈥?%26gt; Properties %26gt; System Restore. Now enable 鈥淭urn off system restore on all drives鈥?%26gt; click apply %26gt; click ok.

Go on the internet and search for anti-spyware, a loonnngg list will appear. 90% will say they are free, but read closely, if you want 100% protection all the time might we suggest our XYZ program, which costs a mere $19.99? That ssqpp.exe is to do with the Vundo trojan.

Many antispyware and antivirus programs are poor at removing the Vundo trojan.

You will need to download and run Vundofix -- this is a very effective tool specifically made to remove these type of infection.

How to get rid of this?

There's this thing on the bottom right of my screen (windows xp) and I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to be there. It's a little pop-up bubble (like the windows update) and it says ''(warning sign) (bold) System Alert! I have an HP Pavilion a305w. I have got Super antispyware, Xsortspyse, Smithfraud Fix, Hijack this, ewido antispyware, Registry mechanic and lunch data recovery. Between all of these I have managed to get rid of alot of crap in the computer. I am however still unable to use my restore computer to earlier time and I dont have my _NEC DVD+RW ND-1100A. I have done the device manager, uninstalled the DVD +RW drive and the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers restarted and I still have a big red x on my hard drive. I am not able to send the computer back in time it tells me when I do the earlier time that it was unable to make any changes and will not allow me to go back any futher then 2 days which the same problems were here. Any one know of a site that I can get a copy of the reboot disk for windows xp that I will be able to download and open on computer? Any suggestions would be a great help. HP and Compaq build in a recovery partition on the newer units.

Not sure how old yours is, but if it is there, you should be able to hold down the F-11 key as you start the computer.

If this does not work, try to find ''Recovery Console'' in the search option. If you have this, it will allow you to reformat the

computer back to out of box condition.

If that does not work, you are right, you will need a disc.

Thats what it said. Exactly. So I freaked. I scanned my computer and a threat popped up. I killed it. And got onto the internet and yet it still did that. And it does that everytime I go to a new link/window/ etc. And the message doesn't really sound like very good english. And it doesn't even tell me the spyware. It makes my computer go real slow when it pops up too.

Oh and I pressed OK and it didn't do anything. I'm scanning the computer yet again for a 5th time to see if anything comes up cause the other times there was something. I killed it but I dont know.

NEVER say ok to scan with something you didn't initiate. You need to scan with trusted/known anti-virus and anti-spyware software.

No single program can detect and eradicate all spyware and I recommend using Ad-aware and Spybot (they are free). Other great free anti-spyware programs would be Super anti-spyware and AVG anti-spyware (formally Ewido).

Yesterday I had a balloon pop up saying I had a spyware infection. It is not a real windows warning. This is my second question..and I thank everyone who answered the first I posted..However I forgot to tell you some details about my computer.

My computer(a laptop) had a problem..like 1 month ago, related with the hard disk and we gave it to the manufacturer (ACER) and they replaced the hard disk for free because we had a warranty.

I would suggest Spyware doctor. Just type it in in google and it will find it. Best thing i know.
Top of web page tools internet options delete files delete cookies clear history, content clear ssl state autocomplete clear forms. Also go to your C Drive Windows Prefetch delete all thats there but not layout.

Then D/load ccleaner adaware ewido spybot and eusing all free and easy to use.

I searched [Google, hotbot, webcrawl] the net for I-WORM/VB.GG. Guess what? The Grisoft site is the ONLY one with an answer. Symantec and McAfee dont even know about this virus / spyware. How come? The remove method was also crazy - download a bunch of free software -antispyware, botware etc. Does'nt this sound fishy? AVG says its forum is for Registered Users only, not for free users. No issues. I want to know how come no other antivirus company has posted / detected this virus.

Each AV company gives virus's a different ID. This might have a different designation with other companies. Also if you searched for it in all caps like you listed here, it might not register in the search engine. Usually you need to be very accurate in how it is spelled. Exactly as the program that discovered it spells it. Sometimes minor change will result in negative search results.

As a result of using Internet I had massive problems with Spywares and viruses. I installed a toolbar and it came packaged with spyware and clutter up my browser with useless buttons. It happened quite a long time ago and I just tolerated that. But the serious problems started when I opened unknown email letter. One of virus on my computer was a really invasive spywere and made me to think seriously about doing something. I tried to delete some files I considered to be bad in a safe mode but it didn鈥檛 work. I thereafter routinely ran several antispyware programs, none of which eradicated the spyware totally. I've tried some protection systems, the free ones. As I鈥檓 not very experienced in that case I used the most typical programs. While trying different anti-viruses and anti-spyweres I downloaded the Spy-Shredder. I just wanted to put in a good word for the program. Actually it鈥檚 a great program and it helped me much. I have not had a spyware infection since I switched over to it and I haven't had any unwanted pop-ups either. I wanted to thank the guys who made the anti-spywere. Did you just use windows update recently and maye install IE7? if so your phishing filter in IE7 can cause this you can turn it off in an internet explorer window by going to tools. You also may need to check your antivirus options if your heuristic settings are set to high it may block some things in email etc...depending on your antivirus software. you can add myspace to your trusted sites under tools and security in IE this may help you too...also go to the advanced tab in internet options under tools and see if your java isn't checked and your images aren't either if so check them this is under security and multimedia....Sometimes a virus and spyware can cause this too go to a free site after turning off your virus software and scan like trendmicro.com or avast.com and use the free scanners there. Stale pages in your cookies can too dump all your cookies and temp files and history etc....hope these things help. Feel free to message i'll answer if im here

Ok, I seem to have aquirred some spyware %26 it changed my start up page to some antivirus add. I ran Norton Anti Virus and it removed the mal ware. It even infected my tool bar but I removed it. However, my homepage has changed and even when I type in the main home page I'd like it to be, it keeps going back to antivirus add page as my default. What should I do now? I have nothing like that in my Windows Security Center. I highly recommend contacting microsoft...since Windows is a microsoft product. They should be able to tell you what it is and how to (if needed) remove it. I'm guessing Security Center is telling you that there is spyware on your computer. Or you need antispyware? The two most common ways to reinstall Windows XP is through a Full Install or a Repair Install. A Full Install wipes the hard drive clean (formats it) and everything is erased, including your special 25 digit product identification key which is how Microsoft knows if Windows is legal and activated. A Repair Install does not remove personal settings or programs. It just overwrites the existing XP with a clean copy. So your product identification key remains in place. It sounds like you did a Repair Install since the ''Activate Windows'' option under system tools said the product was already activated.

The past couple of days i noticed that my disc space on my c drive was getting lower and lower. i first just deleted some stuff i didnt need. But after a while it would be low on disc space again, even if i didn't download anything. At one point i even had 0 bytes left and i barely had anything of large size on the c drive.

-Run disc defragmentor

-Tried to do a system restore but did not have any dates that were backed up

I have seen that people have asked about this and I know that the error message is actually spyware, I just dont know how to get rid of it.
